CSR in family business's DNA

The Business Family Insights column profiles business families and how they approach issues of governance and stewardship. They support the SMU Business Families Institute's mission to encourage business families to Think Generations, Think Growth, Think Giving and Think Global. This edition shared about how third-generation scions of the Daniel Teo group of companies have ensured that service to the community takes precedence over self. Academic Director of Business Families Institute, V3 Group Fellow in Family Entrepreneurship, and Assistant Professor of Strategic Management (Education) Kenneth Goh said, "The engagement of family businesses in society often reflects longstanding principles and values passed down through generations. For families that support the arts, heritage and culture, their commitment usually stems from an authentic link to their history and not just as part of CSR activity. The ability to forge new roads in an increasingly digitalised economy while preserving heritage allows the next generation to perpetuate the families' legacy."
