Sustainability takes centre stage in education

11 May 2021

BFI@SMU was established in response to the growing needs of business families in Asia. This column profiles business families and how they approach issues of governance and stewardship. Stefan Tan, Chief Sustainability Officer and Executive Director for Business Development at KinderWorld International Group shares the organisation’s approach in integrating sustainability elements into its curriculum. SMU Assistant Professor of Strategic Management (Education) and Interim Academic Director of BFI Kenneth Goh said, “Sustainability focuses on the preservation of nature, life support, and community while pursuing economic gains for individuals and society. Business families – with their long-term orientation and roots in local communities – naturally operate with sustainability principles in mind. These principles should be incorporated into every aspect of the business – from corporate governance and management, to physical spaces, operational processes, and products and services.”
