The Business Families Institute @ Singapore Management University (BFI@SMU) is FIVE this year and we are marking this milestone at our 5th Anniversary Celebrations on 26 & 27 July 2018. The objective of the Celebrations which comprise a conference and gala dinner among other activities, is to create a platform for top academics, practitioners, renowned speakers and Asian family business leaders to share insights and experience in embracing change and driving transformation, thereby promoting family entrepreneurship.
Enduring family businesses display exemplary stewardship behaviour driven by a strong consideration for sustainable growth and a desire to give to the community in various forms. Asian family firms represent 85% of the world’s family owned businesses and contribute to 32% of the total market capitalisation, playing a major role in the development of their economies. However, due to the relatively young nature of these firms and the limited pool of experience within the family, cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit is necessary to sustain the initial growth momentum. Join us at the STEP Asia Pacific (APAC) Summit on 27 July with BFI@SMU playing host to learn how families across the region are building business longevity and doing so meaningfully.

About BFI @ SMU
Since 2010, the Singapore Management University (SMU) had recognised the emergence of Asian business families and discerned that they require specifically contextualised thought leadership and applied knowledge. In response to the growing needs of business families in Asia, SMU established the Business Families Institute (BFI) in August 2012.
BFI@SMU collaborates with various partners, academic or practice, to be a leader in Asian business family-related knowledge. The Institute also encourages business families to Think Generations, Think Growth, Think Giving and Think Global. In doing so, BFI@SMU addresses business family-specific issues such as succession, family governance, entrepreneurship and wealth management. The mission of BFI@SMU is to enable business family members to be engaged and responsible stewards of their families, businesses and communities, through education, research and ecosystem support.
