Asian HNW business owners participating in the BFI @ SMU 2013 Asian Business Families Succesion Research Survey indicated that they required training and support in the short term (1-2 years) in the areas related to family development, one of which is philanthropy.

Furthermore, interviews suggest that Asian HNW business owners are, in fact, using philanthropy as a platform for family governance.

The philanthropic ecosystem can be fraught with regulations and other compliance issues which necessitate Asian HNW business owners to establish governance strategies and structure as part of their philanthropic platforms that, in turn, facilitate their own family governance.

Structured discussions around philanthropy can also improve transparency in family dynamics, paving the way for increased communication and engagement across the family regarding key issues around running hte family business.
