SMU Associate Professor Annie Koh said that Asian families tend to steer clear of topics like wealth and death, that are deemed taboo. The cultural imperative of confidentiality thus affects their willingness to outsource and appoint third-party providers of services such as global custody services, said Prof Koh. This is particularly so because confidentiality is directly linked to personal security in some Asian countries.
